A Level Biology

What will be studied?

The course is divided into topics, each covering different key concepts of Biology. These topics include: cell structure; biological molecules; enzymes; cell division; exchange and transport systems in animals and plants; diseases and immunity; evolution; genetics; populations and ecosystems; nervous and hormonal communication; and many others.

How will I be assessed?

The A Level Biology course is assessed through three written exams in June of the second year. These exams consist of both short and long answer questions, in addition to a small multiple choice section. Practical work is integral to the course and examined throughout, resulting in a separate practical qualification.

What next?

Biology is a key foundation for progression into medicine, veterinary science, pharmacy, dentistry, nursing, and a range of different professions and degree opportunities within the biological sciences field. An A level in Biology is also highly valued by employers in the NHS, research laboratories and many other careers.
