A Level Fashion & Textiles

What will be studied?

Fashion and Textiles is an academically weighted course that combines the knowledge of garment construction and making with trend forecasting and technical knowledge of Fabrics and garment construction. Students will gain a real understanding of what it means to be a designer, alongside the knowledge and skills sought by higher education and employers. This creative and thought-provoking qualification gives students the practical skills, theoretical knowledge and confidence to succeed in a number of careers.

How will I be assessed?

Fashion and Textiles consists of exam and coursework based assessments. The exam content makes up 50% of the A level and focusses on Technical Principles and Designing and Making principles with key links to the fashion and Textiles industry. The coursework element is a substantial design and make project and will test students’ specialist knowledge and core technical principles culminating in the making of a garment and presentation of a portfolio.

What next?

Fashion and Textiles provides valuable access to a multitude of career paths within the creative industry. Fashion designer, visual merchandiser, fashion buyer, stylist, costume designer, trend forecaster are just a few examples of where Fashion and Textiles can lead. Fashion ,design and visual language are integral to all areas of employment where there is a focus on the brand and as such employers search to employ people with a creative background and skills.
