Mock Interview Week – w/c 21st November 2022

As part of our commitment to preparing students for life beyond sixth form, we ran our first mock interview week in November. We invited in a number of local businesses and employers to ask our Year 13 students competency based questions to help them to reflect on their employability skills. The industry representatives who visited also provided feedback to students on how well they had performed and give them tips and advice on how to be successful in future interviews.

Our students said:

“This experience was really encouraging and help to inspire me to work harder to achieve the grades I need to be accepted into University.”

“My interviewer was really nice and made me feel really confident about the whole experience. The feedback I received encouraged me to be a lot more self- confident and to walk into the room with ‘my head held high’! I really enjoyed the mock interview and will be looking forward for my real interview in the future!”

“I was informed on how to access different pathways and how to achieve the next level through my hard work.”

Year 12 students devised their own questions to interview some of our visitors. They were keen to know what careers the organisations offered, how our visitors came to be employed by these organisations, what their day to day responsibilities looked like and what advice they had for year 12 students.

They filmed their interviews and the videos will be shared among the year group as part of our commitment to opening our young people’s eyes to the huge amounts of opportunities that are out there. All our guests had excellent advice for all the students they saw today – advice that those of us working within education on a day to day basis could simply not have offered.

Darren Jones of Instinct HR said this of his visit:

“What a genuine pleasure to support the talented year 13 students at the Bluecoat Sixth Form today as they prepare for the world of higher education and work with mock interviews.

It’s really inspiring to hear of their achievements and how they are already developing themselves to achieve their future ambitions.

If today’s experience is anything to go by UK PLC is in safe hands for the future.

Those students that already have experience of part-time work, had volunteered their time to support their local community, and were gaining work experience in the their chosen industry certainly stood out with lots of great examples and experiences – surely this is a must for any student in this super competitive market place.

Well done to Bluecoat and Archway Learning Trust for setting up your students with such great support, and of course to those who gave their time today to support.”
