What Will be studied?
This qualification provides students with the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills to progress to further study and training. The course is designed to complement study in related subjects such as A level sociology, law and psychology, and provide an insight into the subject area with a view to further study or training in related subjects. Applied learning allows students to acquire knowledge and understanding in purposeful contexts linked to the criminal justice system. The course is equivalent to an A level and grades awarded are A* – E.
How will I be assessed?
The units studied over the two years are:
Year 12:
- Unit 1: Changing awareness of crime
- Unit 2: Criminological theories
Year 13:
- Unit 3: Crime scene to courtroom
- Unit 4: Crime and punishment
Units 1 and 3: Controlled assessment, split over 8 hrs, in exam conditions (written class notes are taken in)
Units 2 and 4: Paper based exam, 1.5hrs
What next?
Careers in law, law enforcement, probation and prison services, forensics, youth and social work or the charity sector are all possible areas to move towards.
