Careers and Employability

Bluecoat Sixth Form Careers and Employability Skills Programme

At Bluecoat Sixth Form our vision is to ensure that all our students have equal opportunity to realise their potential and enjoy a rewarding career. Our aim is for our students to be inspired by their knowledge of the wealth of careers opportunities available to them, be able to plan the steps they need to take to get to where they want to go and for them to understand the relevance of the skills and knowledge they have that will allow them to thrive in the work place.

We aim to achieve this by providing high quality education, information, advice and guidance that is accessible to all. Our careers and employability skills programme invests in the development of skills to meet the changing needs of business and helps our learners to understand where their qualifications lead. See below for some of the themes that underpin our careers and employability programme.

Introduction to careers support

We introduce students and parents to our stable careers programme. We launch Unifrog as our preferred platform for personalised discovery of careers, subjects and universities.

Work experience launch and UK Parliament Week

We focus on the skills and confidence needed for students to approach potential work experience placements and employers. See our latest news for an exciting encounter with our local MP as part of UK Parliament Week!

Personalised approach to careers planning and Employability skills

We broaden students’ knowledge of the scope of employment possibilities tailored to suit their interests and talents and develop oracy skills needed to talk about their employability competencies.

Super-curricular enrichment

We guide students to resources that allow them access to wider and deeper reading to undertake in preparation for future applications.

Looking beyond sixth form

We develop students’ knowledge of the pathways available to them post 18 and what practical steps are required in order to meet future aspirations.

University application support and How to make the most of work experience

We support students to plan a successful application to a university, apprenticeship or job and ensure they are well equipped to have a meaningful first-hand experience of a work place.

University application support

We deliver a comprehensive programme that supports students to write a successful personal statement for their chosen courses; drawing on staff expertise, university outreach teams and third party providers such as into university

Interview and assessment centre support

We develop students’ knowledge and confidence for success at interviews and assessment centres.

Apprenticeship application support

We introduce students to practical steps for searching for and making successful applications to apprenticeship providers.

Preparing for success

We work with Higher Education outreach teams and Bluecoat Sixth Form Alumni to prepare students for success beyond sixth form

In addition to the above careers focuses, Year 12 will engage with a weekly career of the week which will give them access to good quality information about future options and labour market opportunities. All sixth form students will have access to an appointment with an Archway Learning Trust careers adviser, during which they will receive personalised advice and guidance.
