Spring Term 2023

Library Noticeboard

Happy 2023! We’re welcoming in the new year with a new a dedicated library noticeboard in the school corridor, so that all students will be able to see what the library has to offer. I’m pretty happy with how it looks so far…🙂

Lunar New Year

Happy Year of the Rabbit – or Cat if you have Vietnamese heritage. This year, we focussed on writing by authors with heritage linked to areas where Lunar New Year is celebrated. This year we were able to represent China, Vietnam, Taiwan and South Korea, and it was good to see how our collection has developed since last year. We don’t have any books by Mongolian authors yet, but we hope to in the future!

Prepare and Review Mats

Each A-Level subject provides students with a Prepare and Review Mat at the beginning of each term, which gives links to extend their studies beyond the curriculum. Every mat includes a book recommendation linked to the subject to encourage reading for pleasure – here is a selection of the books we have recommended so far!

Women’s History Month 2023

This year’s theme was “Celebrating Women Who Tell Stories” – perfect for the library! We celebrated Women’s History Month with a display of books about feminism and women’s positions in the world. Our dedicated display on our diversity board included a selection of books by women showcasing strong female characters, as well as key quotes from women who have truly made history.

It’s British Science Week in the library! Check out our display of fiction and non-fiction books, along with our dedicated newsletter shared with the Science department.

Happy St Patrick’s Day

On behalf of our staff and students with Irish heritage, we like to mark the 17th March in the library with a display of books by Irish authors. It turned out to be a great way to draw students’ attention to a variety of genres and styles of book!
