Bluecoat Sixth Form has temporarily relocating to the heart of Nottingham City Centre.

The Sixth Form has temporarily relocated to the Nottingham College site on Maid Marian Way.

The site has undergone refurbishment before the move took place in the summer term.

The temporary relocation follows on from the recent announcement of the location for the new Bluecoat Trent Academy due to open in September 2021.

Bluecoat Trent Academy will be located on the edge of Forest Fields close to Mapperley Park and will be built on the former site of Clarendon College.

Whilst the new academy is being constructed, it will be based in its own building currently occupied by Bluecoat Sixth Form on the site of Bluecoat Aspley Academy on Aspley Lane.

Part of the Archway Learning Trust, Bluecoat Sixth Form will still offer the same high quality teaching and learning and personalised pastoral care; with the added benefits of being in the city centre. This is an exciting opportunity to strengthen our links with the local university outreach teams and explore the super-curricular trips and visits our students could enjoy.

Alaina Wood, Head of Sixth Form/Assistant Principal said:

“Our students come to us for our dedicated teachers who are unwaveringly committed to supporting student progress and for our bespoke tutor programme. With a move to the city centre, we can continue to offer superb standards of teaching and learning and pastoral care, while also providing an enriched curriculum that benefits from being situated in the centre of our thriving city.

“We are also mindful of the fact that our current cohort, more than any other, have had to show continual resilience since the beginning of the pandemic and we are working with these students to do all that we can to support them with the transition to our new site in September.”

Councillor David Mellen, Leader of Nottingham City Council and Portfolio Holder for Schools, said:

“We’re really proud to be able to support the Bluecoat Sixth form while their new facilities are being built, which will help to improve the wider school provision for Nottingham.

“The temporary move will not only help to bring activity and students into this part of the city on a short-term basis, but it will also allow us time to continue work on our new post-Covid vision for the greater Broadmarsh area.

“This includes the redevelopment of the old college site itself in the longer term, which will complement the current work underway to create a green pedestrianised area on Collin Street planned to go alongside the new central library and surrounding the new Nottingham College City Hub.

“We will aim to bring forward new development on the site when the temporary use by Bluecoat ends.

“Having students in the area and Bluecoat Sixth Form temporarily looking after the site is very positive and a welcome new neighbour to the £30m Castle transformation project”.
